2022 Candidate Survey
Describe your personal experience with skateboarding.
I was an avid skateboarder in my youth. I grew up in a small farming community. I was a teenager in the late 80's/early90's. Skateboarding was frowned upon and basically illegal in my town. I am so happy to see that skateboarding is a mainstream sport today. There was a time when I could do a kick flip. Sadly, that time has passed.
Can you do a kick flip?
Do the communities you would represent have quality, accessible, visible skateboarding spaces?
Bemidji has a wonderful skate park. Red lake also has a good skate park.
Do you see the connection between skateboarding and social, racial, gender, and economic equity? If so, please share a few thoughts.
I have not been an active skateboarder for twenty years. I am out of the loop. But as I said above, it is great to see that skateboarding is now mainstream and that people of all walk of life are embracing the sport.
How will you support youth and community health with new ideas and infrastructure?
I am all about improving health outcomes in communities. I represent very poor communities with chronic illnesses. Maintaining skate parks and other accessible recreation facilities is key to improving health outcomes.
Will you support fully funding the Minnesota Skate Park Grant Program (SF2502/HF2876) in the 2023 Legislative session and beyond?
