2022 Candidate Survey

Describe your personal experience with skateboarding.

I have tried skateboarding in the past and enjoyed it! I think it's a great way to get kids active, building community, and finding an outlet that can help them stay motivated in other aspects of their life. As a middle school teacher, I knew dozens of kids that loved skateboarding and skateboarding culture, and I'm glad it was a part of their lives. I have a very positive view of skateboarding in general (though the mom and paramedic in me just hopes people wear their helmets).

Can you do a kick flip?

No

Do the communities you would represent have quality, accessible, visible skateboarding spaces?

Some of the communities I represent do have quality, accessible, and visible skateboarding spaces, but not all.

Do you see the connection between skateboarding and social, racial, gender, and economic equity? If so, please share a few thoughts.

I do see the connection between skateboarding and social, racial, gender, and economic equity. Skateboarding can bring people together, and can often be less expensive to get started than other activities or sports. As long as people have somewhere to gather, skateboarding can be a wonderful equalizer and community builder.

How will you support youth and community health with new ideas and infrastructure?

I support funding for local parks infrastructure- I think those investments are one of the most important things we can do to build wonderful, thriving communities. I absolutely believe skateparks should be a part of our overall parks funding, including through carve outs if we find that local communities need greater incentives to invest in these spaces.

Will you support fully funding the Minnesota Skate Park Grant Program (SF2502/HF2876) in the 2023 Legislative session and beyond?

I would be happy to support the Minnesota Skate Park Grant Program if elected to the Minnesota Senate.
