2022 Candidate Survey
Describe your personal experience with skateboarding.
No, I am not a skateboarder. I have known long boarders who find it relaxing along with the thrill. In the immediate area, there are two known skateboarding parks. It is a blend of skills, math, science, and engineering.
Can you do a kick flip?
No
Do the communities you would represent have quality, accessible, visible skateboarding spaces?
Yes, there are places within the district that could be transitioned into a skateboarding park. The skateboarding park would not take away from the surrounding beauty. There is one skateboarding parking in Cloquet, MN, and a skateboarding area in Moose Lake, MN. Individuals are observed using it.
Do you see the connection between skateboarding and social, racial, gender, and economic equity? If so, please share a few thoughts.
It is a shared activity that individuals can compete in across the community. I am reminded of the 1950s and 1960s when individuals would gather at parks and compete with each other. Skateboarding is a gender-neutral activity. As individuals share ideas and suggestions between individuals to improve their craft, this should improve equity across the board.
How will you support youth and community health with new ideas and infrastructure?
The return on investment is critical. Let's provide individuals space that pays for itself. Public/private collaboration would be an option because of the shared benefit to the community.
Will you support fully funding the Minnesota Skate Park Grant Program (SF2502/HF2876) in the 2023 Legislative session and beyond?
Yes, any way to reduce community crime, engage individuals in a positive activity, and create space that is safe, I am all for it. I am a strong supporter of community engagement and creating space for individuals to engage in positive activities.
